Create a Ocean Animation with Scratch Jr

Overview

In this project, we will create an Ocean Animation in Scratch Jr. You will design an underwater scene with swimming fish and bubbles to bring the ocean to life.

Blocks and Features

  • Start blocks: Green Flag
  • Motion blocks: Move
  • Looks blocks: Say, Hide, Show
  • Control blocks: Wait
  • End blocks: End

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. Set the Scene: Start with a blank canvas. Add a background of the ocean or sea from the library.
  2. Add Fish: Choose a fish sprite from the library. Use the Move block to make the fish swim across the screen.
  3. Animate the Fish: Add the Wait block to create pauses in the fish's movement. You can make it move in different directions.
  4. Add Bubbles: Select a bubble sprite from the library. Use the Move block to make the bubbles rise up in the water.
  5. Animate the Bubbles: Apply the Wait block to create a floating effect for the bubbles.

Extension Ideas

  • Sound Effects: Incorporate Sound blocks to add underwater sound effects like bubbles popping or fish swimming.
  • Customize Fish: Encourage your child to create their fish sprite using the paint editor.
  • Interactive Scene: Use Control blocks to make the fish respond to taps or touches on the screen.

Experiment and Have Fun!

Encourage your child to experiment with different movements for the fish and bubbles. They can also explore changing the background to create different underwater environments. Remember, the key is to have fun and let creativity flow freely!
