Scratch Jr Project: Build a Nature Scene
Project Overview:
In this project, we will create a vibrant nature scene in Scratch Jr featuring a forest with animals like frogs and birds under a shining sun.
Blocks and Features Used:
- Blue (Motion): Move
- Purple (Looks): Say, Hide, Show
- Green (Sound): Pop
- Orange (Control): Wait
- Red (End): End
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Setting the Scene:
- Choose a green background for the forest.
- Add a sun in the sky using a yellow circle.
Adding Animals:
- Place a frog sprite on the ground.
- Add a bird sprite in the sky.
Animating the Frog:
- Use the Move block to make the frog hop.
- Add a Pop sound block to play a frog sound when the frog moves.
Animating the Bird:
- Make the bird fly across the screen using the Move block.
- Add a Pop sound block to create bird chirping sounds.
Interaction:
- When the sun is tapped (using Start on Tap), have the frog say "Hi!" and the bird say "Tweet!".
- Hide the messages using the Hide block after a few seconds.
Final Touches:
- Use Wait blocks to create pauses in between actions.
- End the program with the End block.
Extensions:
- Encourage your child to add more animals like squirrels or butterflies to the scene.
- Introduce background music using the Record block for a more immersive experience.
- Challenge your child to create a day-night cycle by changing the background and adding a moon and stars.
Encouragement:
- Encourage your child to experiment with different sounds, movements, and dialogues for the sprites.
- Let them customize the scene with their favorite animals and elements to make it truly unique.
